Job description

NATURE OF THE TASKS

Drafting of working documents, in particular for the CLEN Annual Plenary Meeting (i.e., work plan, activity report and meeting minutes), and other relevant documents (compilation of analytical methods, results of questionnaires, figures, graphics, triennial survey of European Customs Laboratories, etc.).

Coordination with the Member State in charge of the organisation of the proficiency tests

Participation to the scientific and technical discussions of the various meetings and events, in particular in the ILIADe Project Group (CLEN Action 1), including the Annual meeting, and in the Project Group on compliance assessment, use of precision data and statistics (CLEN Action 3). This also covers the management and enrichment of the ILIADe database, uncertainty of measurement, accreditation, scientific expertise, analytical methods, analytical equipment, illicit traffics, tariff classification.

Organisation of sampling trainings (CLEN Action 3) and training and workshops on specific topics (CLEN Action 5) which will be held online (e.g., defining the event with the Commission and the host organiser, coordinate collaboration with other possibly relevant actors, such as the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), etc.). Participation in the physical trainings.

Liaising with Member States for the update and enrichment of the Samancta electronic manual (e.g., support in the preparation of new sampling procedure cards according to the latest scientific developments and specific needs, draft and update of PowerPoint presentations on sampling issues, enriching the database with relevant visual examples and pictures). Active participation and draft of meeting minutes of the Samancta Annual Project Group meeting.

Support to transversal policy activities related to the CLEN.

LEVEL OF EDUCATION Bachelor or Master Degree

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Capability to produce minutes, notes, reports, other business/technical documents in a structured way and as related to the respective tasks.

• Very good communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences, in particular the ability to adapt the information to the target audience.

• Strong organisational and coordination skills with many international stakeholders.

• Ability to give presentations, rapid self-starting capability and ability to work autonomously and in small teams.

• Ability to deliver efficiently and fast.

• Ability to apply high quality standards. • Analysis and problem-solving skills. • Ability to learn quickly ad hoc Commission applications.

• Understanding of the political, legal and economic context in which EU policies operate.

• Experience in international/multicultural environment is an asset.

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE

• Experience in biology, chemistry, natural sciences, or a related field.

• Knowledge of relevant legal frameworks and policy instruments, in particular in the field of scientific customs.

• Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.

• Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and concisely.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT productivity tools.

• Fluency in English, both written and orally. Minimum of another official language of the European Union.
